Karmøy Test Site

About

Spoor is a biodiversity technology company delivering AI-powered bird monitoring solutions for the wind industry. At the METCentre site, Spoor deployed mono-vision cameras on the Zefyros floating wind turbine, enabling the first-of-its-kind continuous daytime bird monitoring at a floating offshore wind farm over multiple seasons.

Using advanced computer vision and machine learning, Spoor’s software detects, tracks, and classifies bird activity with high spatial and temporal resolution. The system generated over 5,400 hours of footage and more than 21,000 bird detections, contributing valuable insights into species behavior, flight paths, and seasonal trends—without recording any collisions across the observed period.

This project demonstrates the potential of scalable, high-accuracy bird monitoring for environmental assessments, collision risk modeling, and regulatory confidence in floating offshore wind development.
