TetraSpar Demonstrator
About
The TetraSpar Demonstrator is making history as the world’s first full-scale demonstration of an industrialized floating wind foundation.
Its innovative tetrahedral design, built from modular tubular steel components with a suspended keel, revolutionizes how floating foundations are manufactured and deployed. Assembled without welding at the Port of Grenaa, Denmark, the process showcases a streamlined and cost-effective approach to offshore wind construction.
After launch, a powerful 3.6 MW Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy wind turbine was mounted on the foundation. In July 2021, the fully integrated structure was towed to the Marine Energy Test Centre, 10 kilometers off the coast of Karmøy, Norway. TetraSpar is still delivering power to shore through Unitech Zefyros, which is connected directly to the local grid onshore.
Today, the TetraSpar Demonstrator is operating at full capacity at a water depth of 200 meters, delivering valuable insights that will help shape the future of floating wind power.
