Ready for "plug and play" at METCentre

Okay! Everything is relative, but you probably understand what we mean. For now, an agreement is in place that ensures easier grid connection for the next floating wind project at the METCentre.

An important milestone has been reached as METCentre, Unitech Offshore, TetraSpar Demonstrator and Stiesdal Offshore have finalized an agreement that allows the existing 22 kV inter-array cable (IAC) used by the TetraSpar Demonstrator to remain at the site following the project's decommissioning this summer.

Instead of being removed, the cable will be transferred to Unitech Offshore, and placed in wet storage at the seabed, making it available for future demonstration projects at the test field. With this solution in place, METCentre remains ready for the connection of the next floating wind project while reducing both costs and environmental impact through the reuse of existing infrastructure.

"Something old, something new..."

At the same time, while preparing for reuse of the excisting cable, work is progressing on our planned 66 kV grid upgrade, which will enable testing of the next generation of floating offshore wind technologies and larger turbines.

A big thank you to Unitech Offshore, TetraSpar Demonstrator and Stiesdal Offshore for the constructive collaboration that made this possible. We are now one step closer to welcoming the next floating wind project to METCentre.
