Green light for extension

Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Tina Bru

One step closer to extension of the test-centre after the green light from the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

METCentre has been given an exception from the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (OED) to the requirement for impact assessment and consultation. This means that METCentre can submit its application for the extension of METCentre directly to The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).

«METCentre has developed into a world leader. The fact that they can now apply for expansion means that we can maintain Norway’s leading position in floating offshore wind», says Minister Tina Bru to E24.no.

«It is very nice that the ministry gives the green light», says Arvid Nesse, general manager at the test centre on Karmøy.

The application for extension covers an area of 21 square kilometers, and the turbines will be positioned with 1.5 kilometers between them. Apart from a caution zone of 50 meters, the turbines will not be an obstacle to traffic in the area
